PreCanSkate

 

This is a learn to skate program that introduces basic skills

When is it?

Session A: Tuesdays, September 6 - October 4, 4:00 - 4:30pm

Session B: Wednesdays, September 7 - October 5, 5:30 - 6:00pm

Who is it for?

This is a learn to skate program geared towards skaters who have never skated before, are not old enough for the CanSkate program, or are not sure if they will like skating and just want to try it out. There is no age requirement but your child must be able to stay on the ice without a parent for the length of the session (30 minutes).

Who teaches it?

NCCP trained CanSkate coach along with Program Assistants

What will you learn?

  • Ice safety
  • Learn to be comfortable on the ice
  • Skills introduced:
    • Balance on 2 feet
    • Fall down & get up
    • Move Forward
    • Move Backward
    • Turn around
    • Make snow
    • Jump on the spot
    • 2 feet twist on the spot

What can you expect?

Lessons are given in a group format with a coach/assistant ratio of 1:3. Songs and games are used to teach basic skating skills.

What do you need?

  • CSA approved hockey helmet
  • Skates that fit and support the ankles
  • Warm clothes that allow free movement

Do parents need to be on the ice?

No, parents are not allowed on the ice or in the player's boxes. Parents are asked to dress their child in the dressing rooms, help their child to the player's boxes and then watch from the stands.

Can I register my child in the CanSkate program after the PreCanSkate session finishes?

Depending on your child's progress, the coach will recommend your child to continue with PreCanSkate next year OR will recommend your child to move up to the CanSkate program.

If your child completes PreCanSkate program and moves up to the CanSkate program, there will be a discount to the cost of the CanSkate session.
