CanSkate
This is a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.
When is it?
FULL TIME: Tuesdays AND Thursdays 4:00 - 4:45 pm
PART TIME: Tuesdays OR Thursdays 4:00 - 4:45pm
October 15, 2024 - March 6, 2025
*There will be no sessions January 30-February 10, 2025
Who is it for?
CanSkate is for beginner skaters 3 years and older (at the discretion of the Club), or for those wishing to improve their basic skills in figure skating, hockey, speed skating or just skating for fun. Skaters must be toilet trained.
Who teaches it?
NCCP trained CanSkate coach along with Program Assistants
What will they learn?
A complete series of balance, control and agility skills is taught in 6 stages of learning that relate to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating. The CanSkate program uses both a nationally tested, proven curriculum as well as delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster.
What can you expect?
Action, movement and fun! Lessons are given in a group format using circuits with a maximum coach-to-student ratio of 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities.
What do you need to participate?
- CSA approved hockey helmet
- Skates that support the ankles (preferably not molded skates)
- Long pants, mitts and a warm sweater or jacket
What are the costs and volunteer requirements?
FULL TIME CANSKATE:
$405.00 Full-time (Tuesdays AND Thursdays)
- 8 hours of volunteer time required
PART TIME CANSKATE:
$330.00 Part-time (Tuesdays OR Thursdays)
- 5 hours of volunteer time required
Please note:
- Coaching fees are included for Stettler's Future Stars FunSkate Competition. Participation is optional.
- All other in-town or out-of-town competition fees (entrance and coaching) are additional. Participation is optional.
