Who is it for?

It's Never to Late to Learn to SKATE

Our learn to skate program is designed for skaters just stepping on the ice. 

Skaters will learn the fundamentals of skating in a fun, supportive environment while developing balance, coordination, confidence, edge control and basic skating skills.

Weather your goal is to skate with your kids, join a recreational program, return to the ice, or simply try something new - we will meet you where you're at and help you progress.

Minimum age requirement is 10 years.

Who teaches it?

NCCP trained CanSkate coach along with Program Assistants

What will you learn?

  • Ice safety
  • Learn to be comfortable on the ice
  • Skills introduced:
    • Balance on two feet
    • Fall down & get up
    • Move forward
    • Move backward
    • Turn around
    • Make snow
    • Jump on the spot
    • Two foot twist on the spot

What can you expect?

Lessons are given in a group format with a coach/assistant ratio of 1:3. Songs and games are used to teach basic skating skills.

What do you need?

  • CSA approved hockey helmet
  • Skates that fit and support the ankles
  • Warm clothes that allow free movement

Do parents need to be on the ice?

No, parents are not allowed on the ice or in the player's boxes.

Parents are asked to dress their child in the dressing rooms, help their child to the player's boxes and then watch from the stands.

Parents must stay in the facility for the duration of the program.
